Inner Battles (Poem)

Sometimes the battles
You fight with yourself
Are the hardest ones
When your heart and mind
Pull you in opposite directions
When the distance between
What you should do
And what you feel like doing
Is just too much
When feelings take
A life of their own
And make you reckless
While you are fully aware
That when you play with fire
You will get burnt

In such a battle
There is no victory
There is no glory
Only loss and destruction
So, maybe fighting is futile
Maybe you just need to
Acknowledge the conflict
And be with it patiently
For as long as it takes
Sit through the howling winds
And the torrents of rain
Let the raging storm pass
Making way for clear skies
And you may or may not
Get the answer
But you will get the calm
