Music (Poem)

Music is my me time
Music is my escape
My haven, my solace
Music is a journey
To a better place
Music is a reflection of
My feelings, my mood
It's a friend, a confidant
Who doesn't try to fix it
But is simply there for me
It's almost as if it
Understands me perfectly
In that moment 

Undefeated (Poem)

Like a petulant child
I want just the toy
That I have been told
I can't have right now
I stomp my feet
I scream, but to no avail 

Then the adult ego in me
Rears it's head and
Brings fits of anger, saying
How dare you point out
That I am not good enough
That I am not ready 

Followed by sadness and despair
That it has all been for nothing
All the efforts down the drain
Only a long foggy road ahead
A heavy burden on my shoulders
No respite, no end in sight 

But then the inner spirit 
Reminds me to pause
Step back and reflect
Just breathe in and out
Think about what I really want
And calm descends upon me 

I separate controllables 
From uncontrollables 
Just like wheat from chaff
I get up, determined 
To keep moving forward 
Because I am undefeated
